Wednesday Wish List

So do you ever find yourself logging on to your favorite online shops and adding one item after another to the shopping bag as if you’d won a free shopping spree, only to look at your “cart” total and very slowly click save for later and shut your laptop with an overwhelming sense of loss?? No? Maybe it’s just me that does that… Anyway, I thought to help me with my sorrow of knowing ” I CANNOT spend that much money on clothes!”, I decided I would add my most desired items at the moment to a wish list. After all, I often impulse buy and later think “What the hell outfit did I hallucinate I had that this would go with??”. So this way I will have them there to stare at and analyze and ask myself “is that really cute?” “Am I just so desperate to expose myself to some retail therapy that I am imagining that is cute?”. So Here is this weeks items that for now I’m thinking “that’s cute”:

H&M Skirt - $24.95

H&M Skirt - $29.95

Beach Blanket swimsuit RED - $89.99 - modcloth.com

Now the next two items, I have no doubt I want them! However I am going back to work next week after being off since October for back surgery (yes I know, 25 is too damn young for back surgery, but I am one of the lucky ones. Do try not to be jealous) so I am not exactly rolling in the dough as they say. So I will have to hope the price will keep dropping and that even though my boyfriend is a Bills fan (he’s from Buffalo) that he will love me enough to buy this outfit for my birthday. 🙂

Cincinnati Bengals Bling Straight-leg Pant- Orig. $69.50 Sale $48.50

Cincinnati Bengals Bling Hoodie - Orig. $79.50 Sale $54.50

And for those of you who are football fans , like me, Victoria’s Secret has a full line for all 32 NFL teams and they have Collegiate apparel too! So if you have some extra cash, I suggest you pick up some super cute Fan gear! WHO DEY!!

Songs you probably didn’t know were covers…

Tags

So I am often shocked by how many people my age have no knowledge of music that was released before they were born. Not that I know all, but certain classics you expect people to know.  Turns out most of us here iconic songs on commercials, TV shows, movies, etc. and even if we think we know who sings that…maybe we don’t?

I found a lot of articles on the web about cover songs and even a few surprised me. So I put together a list of a few shockers.

1. Respect

Who you thought originated it:

Who really originated it:

Of course this iconic song that has been rocked out to in movies, commercials, and every karaoke bar known to man. But most likely if you ask someone you know or even look it up in the song book at karaoke this Thursday, it’s probably listed under Aretha Franklin. Truth is this song was written and performed by Otis Redding and was released in 1965. It was a top five hit, but the real success of the song came when Franklin recorded it 1967. Her version can be heard in movies including Forest Gump & the TV show Chuck.

**Fun Fact: Aretha’s sisters, Carolyn and Erma sing back up on her version.

2.  I Love Rock and Roll

Who you thought originated it:

Who really originated it:

Just like with Aretha, when you think of this song you think of Joan Jett. (or if you were in Junior High in the early 2000’s, you may think of Britney Spears in Crossroads. Yes, I went to see it in theaters. Don’t judge me!) But once again truth is this song was released six years before the Joan Jett version. Who are the Arrows you might ask? Well there is a good reason you don’t know. The band was based in London and were only together three years. Jett came across the song when she heard the Arrows preform it while she was in London on tour. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts recorded the song in 1981.

**Fun Fact: Jett first recorded the song with Steve Jones and Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols, however that version wasn’t released till 1993 on her flashback album.

3. Girls Just Wanna have Fun

Who you thought originated it:

Who really originated it:

Robert Hazard wrote the song and recorded it in 1979. It became a hit when Lauper  released it in 1983, with a few lyric changes since Hazard wrote it from a mans point of view.

4. One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer

Who you thought originated it:

Who really originated it:

Milburn recorded the song in 1953 which was covered by John Lee Hooker in 1966. Thorogood didn’t record it until 1977.

**Fun Fact: Thorogood combined another of Hooker’s songs, “House Rent Boogie”, with the original to come up with his version.

5. Tainted Love

Who you thought originated it:

Who really originated it:

The song was originally recorded by Jones in 1965. Soft cell released it in 1981, which was a medley of “Tainted Love” and  “Where Did our Love Go” by  The Supremes

I know that there are many other covers out there where the cover was more popular than the original. Are there any really good ones I’ve missed? Let me know & keep being awesome! 🙂

Introducing ME!

I’m Sarah, 25, I like long walks on the beach…just kidding. I’ve decided to start this blog I guess as a follow up to my failed dream of being an entertainment journalist. Well I suppose to fail I would have had to try, at least a little harder than I did with my one year of college. 😦

Anyway enough about what I didn’t get done and more about what I’m gonna do. I’m starting this blog to let out all the things rolling around my noggin. (Which are a lot of random things) But mainly this blog will concentrate on my love of music, shopping and a few random thoughts in between.

I’m glad your reading, let’s get to it!!
